World War I Recruitment Ad Seduces Men to the Navy
This 1917 propaganda poster uses the time-tested method of appealing to a male audience using an alluring female character.

Created by Howard Chandler Christy to recruit soldiers for World War I, this poster features a woman dressed in a Navy uniform proclaiming, “I Want You for the Navy.”

As just one of a diverse array of recruitment tactics designed to encourage young men to enlist in the military, this poster appealed to future servicemen by using an attractive woman to camouflage harsh realities of war.
